First Day in Lisbon...rainy

Looking past on the 2 and 1/2 months of travel so far, it has rained (like really rain where you don't want to walk around outside) only 4 days. It was very disappointing on our first day in Lisbon for it to be raining. Either way, we ventured out into the rain, and thankfully, we did not melt and say some pretty cool sites. These are images from the International Exposition in 1998 in Lisbon.

Port Tasting and Tours

Porto is known to be the Port capital of the world. While it is not the place where the grapes are grown, it is 100km down river from the vineyards, and the majority of all port in the world is stored here to allow it to age. I don't know whether it was the great tour or having some port, but we didn't leave without buying 2 bottles at Ferreira Cellars.

FUN-icular!

It is very hilly in Porto. The riverfront is actually, at parts, vertical from the rest of the city. So, instead of climbing up the steep hill, there is a funicular that carries people up. This train is part of the public transit system, and it probably the coolest thing ever. All I can say is that they call it FUNicular for a reason.

Casa da Musica

this is special glass. it is curved so it doesn't reflect sound. it actually acts to make the room soundproof. moreover, it allows for natural light to enter into the symphany hall.
